Cyclo Cross is Sunday morning
bike-race madness. It's all the fun you can stand. A 'cross
race is lap after lap around a dirt course you can't entirely
ride; You've got to run some of it with your bike on your
shoulder. Crazy-popular in New England, Colorado, the Pacific
Northwest and the SF Bay Area, 'cross is changing, growing,
going mainstream. Cross may be the most-changed "road" Fuji for 2002, most upgraded. The frame (six sizes) is now X-Fusion Alpha tubing, lighter when you're pedaling it, lighter when you're carrying it. The fork is now aluminum too, a cross-specific model with an 1 1/8" steerer. The components are nearly unchanged except for the crankset, an FSA this year, with 38-48 chainrings and ISIS bottom bracket. And the new for '02 custom saddle. The bars, stem, wheels and tires are Ritchey. So much for parts. A Fuji Cross is a wonderfully versatile bicycle. It's nearly as effective off-road as a mountain bike and way more fun. Put smooth-tread tires on it and it makes a great road bike. Put lights and fenders on it and ride it to and from work or to and from Yellowstone. If you can only have one bike... Cross. Questions? |
