Fuji builds two Roubaix models.
They're dual-spec bikes, bikes with identical or
near-identical equipment made from two different materials.
Roubaix Pro is the steel one, its main frame made from
Reynolds legendary 853 Air-Hardened Tubes. Eight-five-three
grows stronger from the welding torch's heat. Other steel
tubes weaken. A properly designed 853 bike will have all of
steel's great qualities, steel's ride and resilience and
traditional appearance. It'll be slightly heavier than a bike
made from X-Fusion aluminum, but as many veteran cyclists will
tell you, it'll be the joy to ride that steel bikes have been
for 100-plus years.
Roubaix Pros have two chainrings. Roubaixs have three. If you live in flat country or you're a pretty strong climber, two is all you need. Roubaix Pros have super-cool carbon fiber forks and cool Ritchey Pro wheels. You'd buy a Roubaix Pro because you've decided maybe your local club's training rides aren't too fast for you after all. You might buy one to ride your fastest-ever Hotter 'n' Hell Hundred. You may be planning a supported ride across some state, Ohio maybe, and you want to ride the 85 miles/day with the fast group.
