Sizing Information
Thanks for shopping with Bikesdirect.com.
Sizing is based mainly on your personal preferences of riding style and position.
If you already own a bike that you like the feel of, find the effective top tube of your current bike and select a new one that is closest to that.
The effective top tube is defined by a ruler / tape measure held parallel to the ground. Measure from the center of the head tube to the center of the seat tube. See the pic above for reference.
If you don't like the fit of your current bike, you can still use that to figure what size will be better. If your current bike has the seat way way up in the air, you feel cramped, your elbows are severely bent, your knees constantly hit your chest, it's probably too small. If you saddle is pushed forward and very low on the bike, the top tube hits you when you get off the saddle, your arms are locked straight; it's probably too big.
Need more assistance picking a size? We are happy to help. We will need the following information from you:
Step 1, Cycling Inseam:
Measure your cycling inseam. Stand in your riding shoes and straddle the spine of a medium sized book. Press the book upwards firmly as if you are sitting on the book spine. Then measure from the top of the book spine to the floor.
This is your "Cycling Inseam"
Step 2, Your Height:
Stand in your riding shoes against a wall. Measure from the top of your head to the ground.
This is your "Height"
Step 3, Riding Style:
Make some notes about yourself. Are you a laid back rider? Or do you always want to lead the rides? Do you like to go fast or would you rather be comfortable?
This is your "Riding Style"
Step 4, Budget/Type of Bike:
How much do you have to spend? Remember, the Bikesdirect price does not have tax in 48 States and Shipping is included to 48 States. This might mean you can spend more on your bike than you thought.
What kind of riding are you doing? Only on the street or do you like to go offroad or on looser ground? Are you commuting or racing?
This is your "Budget/Type of Bike"
